Visiting friends and family

Protecting your money....

Posted on 30. December, 2013

Increasing numbers of travellers are going abroad to visit family and friends. Many plan to stay in the homes of those they are visiting. Unfortunately for some, illness of their hosts may lead to the cancellation or curtailment of their trip.. dont get caught out and find you are uninsured....

Travel insurance requires you to declare an answer to the following question: Are you or any traveller to be insured aware of any medical condition affecting a relative, business associate, travelling companion or someone you are going to stay with, which could result in the trip being cancelled or curtailed? If you answer yes to this, then the chances are that you would not have been able to purchase insurance without the health of the person in question, having been screened or inquired about and your policy endorsed to cover this specific risk. Think carefully about who you are staying with - if at the point you book your trip and buy your insurance you were not aware and neither were they of a medical condition which may arise, then you have no problem. But if you are aware, you must declare this and ensure your policy provider is aware of the risk too - failure to make a truthful declaration is a criminal offence and one that will leave you uninsured if you ultimately have to cancel or curtail your holiday. Dont be caught out, cover for your host's health is part of your insurance requirement.
